The Rummer
The Rummer is supported by the Craft Union Pub Company, which allows pub owners to be self-employed, whilst being supported to do the business of running a pub. The building it occupies is believed to date from the early eighteenth century. The City Arms
The City Arms is a perfect place for beer lovers, who want a traditional pub that dates from the 1880’s. It has a large real ale offering, which is continually changing, with guest beers from around Wales, and the rest of the UK, as well as an impressive bottled beer selection. The Tiny Rebel
The Tiny Rebel is part of a group of pubs, owned by the Tiny Rebel Brewery. The brewery is an award-winning company, from Newport in South Wales. Their declared mission is to bring you good times, with a hint of beer. They were the youngest, Welsh only, brewery to win Champion beer of Britain, and the only one to win gold, silver and bronze in the Champion Beer of Wales Competition, and they did it in their first year. Zero Degrees
Zero Degrees is a micro-brewery and restaurant. Their stated mission is to provide a theatre style drinking and eating experience, with pizzas being a speciality! It is spread over two floors, with two open air terraces. Customers can see the working brewery in operation, and all the processes that go into making their popular offerings. BrewDog
BrewDog is part of a chain, that specialises in the Scottish brewery’s craft beers, but it also has regular guest beers on offer. The craft beers all emerge from 25 different taps. They also serve food, such as burgers and salads. If you are a craft beer enthusiast, or you are looking to take your first sip, then this would be an excellent choice for a visit. The Prince of Wales
The building this pub now inhabits, was once the Theatre Royal, that opened here in 1878. It was renamed the Prince of Wales Theatre in 1935. It later became a cinema, before becoming a Wetherspoons pub. It still has its original stucco decoration, and the dining area is opposite the stage. The Philharmonic is a large pub and night club, in a Grade II listed building. Some people regard it as the best venue in Cardiff. It has three floors, with four bar areas, and includes an area for fine dining. There is also a terrace to relax on. The Brewery Quarter
The Brewery Quarter was once the site of Brains Brewery, founded in 1882, by Samuel Arthur Brain. At its peak, the company controlled more than 250 pubs in Wales, many of them in Cardiff, and western England, but the brewer sold most of its pubs in 2022. On the left of the entrance is the Proud Mary Bar, which used to be the Yard, and before that, it was the original brewery pub, called the Albert. Find out more on our tour.
The Cornerhouse
The Cornerhouse prides itself on its stylish interior, and the fact that it is just five minutes from the main railway station. It is more of a pub, bar, and restaurant type of establishment, with an outdoor space for eating and drinking outside, when the weather gets hot! It serves modern British and Mediterranean dishes, including vegetarian and vegan options. If you are looking to eat and drink a little more upmarket than normal, then this is the place to visit. The Owain Glyndwyr
The Owain Glyndwr is a small pub, located in an old 18th Century ale house, and it is regarded as one of the best pubs in Cardiff. You can watch sport on one of its many television screens, which will be rugby, unless there is no rugby to watch. It is named after the famous Welshman, Owain Glyndwyr, who fought for Welsh independence. He was the last native Welshman to hold the title ‘Prince of Wales’, declared by the people of Wales.
