The Cutty Sark was built in Scotland towards the end of the 19th Century to transport tea, then a very valuable cargo, from China. She was one of the last tea clippers to be built, and was one of the fastest before sailing ships gave way to steam powered ships. Now she is the last surviving ship of her kind. Cutty Sark then transported wool from Australia and held the record for the fastest time from Australia to England for 10 years. The name Cutty Sark is the nickname of a witch from a poem by Robert Burns, the ships figurehead is an image of her. Tourists can visit the ship.

There is a modest entry charge.
This is an 18th Century Anglican Church of medieval origins dedicated to St Alfege who was reputed to have been murdered on this spot in 1012 by Danish Viking raiders who were camped here.
